Engineers Canada is seeking nominations for speakers and leaders to profile at the 2022 30 by 30 Conference, to be held on April 23, 2022.

The theme of the 2022 conference is Emerging Leadership. The goal of the 30 by 30 initiative is to change the engineering profession to better reflect Canadian society, which will require a shift in leadership and leadership culture. The aim of 30 by 30 Conference is to provide guidance for allies to create space for women, gender diverse individuals, and other emerging leaders. We will also develop skills and share knowledge to prepare women and gender diverse individuals to self-advocate and uplift others.

We are looking for nominations in two categories:

  1. Individual leaders in engineering workplaces who use their platforms to further women and gender diverse people’s presence in the engineering profession.
  2. Engineering employers who are leaders in changing workplace culture towards being more inclusive and equitable for a diverse workforce. While there are individual leaders within each organization, this category recognizes employers who are making system wide changes.

All nominees who meet the criteria (listed below) will be featured in the conference program in our ‘EDI Leaders in Engineering’ section. In addition to being featured in the program, we will ask four nominees to join us in Edmonton on a panel discussion at the 2022 Conference at The Westin Edmonton which will also be live-streamed for remote access. Panelists will be invited to share their insights on leadership, addressing systemic barriers and discrimination, representation, and their commitment to breaking the cycle of exclusion in the workplace.

Nominees with a geographic proximity to Edmonton, AB, will be given priority to speak at the conference in consideration for unpredictable COVID restrictions and necessary safety requirements. Travel and accommodation costs will not be covered for the panelists, however, an honoraria will be made available.

Engineers Canada will review submissions for:

  • Relevance to the role model and leadership theme
  • Significance of contributions
  • Demonstrated impact of leadership
  • Innovative ideas
