Obtaining a professional engineering license in Canada can be overwhelming with various steps and requirements along the journey, particularly when applying from abroad. EngineerHere.ca is a resource hub to help international engineering graduates navigate the licensing process in Canada. The website was developed in consultation with engineering regulators, subject matter experts, and a group of international engineering graduates at various stages on the path to licensure in Canada.
Through various videos about the licensure process, clear information, and recommendations for other important websites, EngineerHere.ca provides details on practising engineering in Canada, getting academic credentials assessed, working in engineering in Canada, as well as immigrating to Canada. The content provided on this website is a high-level overview of the process, since engineering regulators ultimately decide how applicants for licensure are assessed.
The site was launched in 2019 as revamp of The Roadmap to Engineering in Canada, which was launched in 2013 in collaboration with Citizenship and Immigration Canada. EngineerHere.ca builds on the success of the previous website, improving the user experience and providing refreshed resources.
After consulting with both the National Admissions Officials Group and an external validation group made up of volunteers, one of the most visible changes made to the website was the name. EngineerHere.ca was selected because it was direct, memorable, and worked well for translatability across both of Canada’s official languages. It was agreed that a simpler name would better meet the goal of providing information in the clearest way possible.
