University transfer certificate: At a National Engineering Month event on March 12, 2025, NorQuest College, the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA), the Government of Alberta, and the University of Alberta announced the launch of the Engineering University Transfer, a first-of-its-kind certificate program which aims to increase accessible opportunities into engineering.
Professional Governance Act: The Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) welcomed Bill 40, the Professional Governance Act, introduced in the legislature by the Government of Alberta on March 11, 2025.
Bill 40 will bring 22 professional regulatory organizations (PROs)—including APEGA—under one act.
Conservative contestant: Michael Gassi, who was competing for the Conservative nomination for Sault Ste. Marie – Algoma, claimed in his bio that he is a “tradesman and mechanical engineer,” but SooToday reported that he is not listed in the Professional Engineers Ontario directory as a professional engineer.
