At the meeting, jointly hosted by Carleton University and the University of Ottawa, the Deans addressed a diverse range of topics and heard from various stakeholders:

  • The President-elect of Professional Engineers Ontario, Mr. David Brown, FEC, P.Eng., provided insights on the regulatory context within which PEO operates.
  • The National Research Council and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada both provided updates, as did NCDEAS committees, including their Liaison Committee with the Accreditation Board’s Policies and Procedures committee.
  • The Engineering Graduate Attribute Development (EGAD) Project and Regional Deans Councils (Western, Ontario, Quebec, Atlantic) also briefed the attendees.
  • The Canada Foundation for Innovation and Mitacs—a national not-for-profit organization that designs and delivers research and training programs in Canada—also presented during the meeting.
  • Information was also provided about mental health and undergraduate education.

Stephanie Price, P.Eng., CAE, Interim CEO of Engineers Canada, provided an update highlighting key Engineers Canada initiatives, while Graham Reader, FEC, P.Eng., Wayne MacQuarrie, FEC, P.Eng., Chair, Accreditation Board, and Lynn Villeneuve, LL.B., Practice Lead, Accreditation, were on hand to update the Deans on Accreditation Board activities and answer meeting participants’ accreditation-related questions.

NCDEAS' spring meeting was held at the Canadian War Museum, where participants were offered the opportunity to explore the exhibits and dine in the Lebreton Gallery, surrounded by a very impressive collection of military technology.
