At the World Engineering Conference and Convention in Kyoto, Japan, in early December, Dr. Marlene Kanga, of Australia, was chosen as President-Elect of the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO).

Kanga brings extensive leadership experience to the role of president. She was a proven track record serving as a member of the WFEO Executive Council, Deputy Chair of the Committee for Disaster Risk Management and a participant in many working groups and standing technical committees.

Engineers Canada is proud to have been one of Kanga’s nominators and to have actively campaigned on her behalf.

“Under her leadership, WFEO will grow its influence and will be better positioned to address global engineering issues on behalf of WFEO members,” said Engineers Canada CEO Kim Allen, FEC, P.Eng., FCAE, MBA.

“She will ensure that the WFEO has a clear vision, a strong voice, enhanced visibility and a plan to remain viable over the long-term.”

Kanga has been a member of the National Council of Engineers Australia for seven years and was National President in 2013. Her tenure resulted in significant legacies that have moved the organization towards greater relevance to its members.

“I believe that Dr. Kanga will bring a dynamic, inclusive vision to the WFEO that will benefit the 20 million engineers of the WFEO member organizations,” said Allen.

Kanga has been repeatedly named to the top 100 engineers in Australia list and is an Honourary Fellow of Engineers Australia.
