March 8 is International Women’s Day, a global day to celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women, and a day that marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality.

This year’s International Women’s Day theme is #EachforEqual, which highlights the collective individualism that is required to achieve equality. Each person is responsible for their own actions, behaviours, thoughts, and mindsets, and everyone has a role to play in challenging stereotypes, fighting bias, and celebrating women’s achievements. As a collective, change can happen to create a gender equal world.

International Women’s Day takes place during March, when Canada is celebrating National Engineering Month. National Engineering Month highlights the diversity of thought, experience, and people that compose the engineering profession and is an opportunity to let young Canadians know that there is a place for them in the engineering profession.

To acknowledge our commitment to #IWD2020 and as part of our National Engineering Month celebration of the diversity of our profession, Engineers Canada staff participated in the global social media campaign #EachforEqual and our national social media campaign #NEM2020 describing how they are helping to forge a gender equal world and working collaboratively with the entire engineering community to inspire the next generation to make their mark on the world as engineers.
