Ottawa, ON, September 29, 2014 – Engineers Canada is honoured to announce the recipients of its 2014 scholarships who demonstrate great potential as they build on their engineering background by pursuing advanced degrees. The six annual scholarships are provided through the generous support of Manulife and TD Insurance Meloche Monnex.
“This year’s scholarship recipients demonstrate how engineers work to improve the lives of Canadians,” said Engineers Canada President Paul Amyotte, FEC, P.Eng. “We are proud to support them as they build on their existing engineering expertise through dedicated research, policy and skill development to solve problems facing Canadian society.”

The six 2014 scholarship recipients are working on a range of projects:
Engineers Canada-Manulife Financial Scholarships ($12,500):
- Phillip Alexandre du Plessix, P.Eng. (APEGA), is pursuing a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering (Fluid Mechanics) at the University of Calgary. His research focuses on understanding the mechanisms of turbulent wakes and developing simplified models to represent and predict them. Recipient bio
- Amirhoushang Jamshidi, P.Eng. (APEGA), is pursuing a doctorate in Civil Engineering (Structural Engineering) at the University of Alberta. He is studying progressive collapse of steel structures, and specifically researching floor slab and steel connection interactions in mitigating structural failures. Recipient bio
- Erin Kahr, P.Eng., M.Sc. (APEGA), is pursuing a doctorate in Geomatics Engineering (GNSS orbit determination) at the University of Calgary. Her research will study how accurately Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) can measure satellites’ positions if their orbits range outside of the typical service areas. Recipient bio
Engineers Canada-TD Insurance Meloche Monnex Scholarships ($7,500):
- Don D’Souza, P.Eng. (APEGA), is pursuing a Master of Environmental Management (MEM) at Yale University. His research examines environmental policy analysis and development to better understand how energy companies can promote progressive environmental policies and sustainable development. Recipient bio
- Scott C. Dumont, P.Eng. (APEGA), is pursuing a Master of Business Administration at Queen’s University. He is rounding out his technical engineering experience with business and financial skills. Recipient bio
- Dominique Toupin, ing., MBA (OIQ), is pursuing a doctorate in Business Administration at the Université Laval. He is researching financial market risk assessment as it pertains to engineering projects. Recipient bio
