Engineers and Geoscientists BC, in collaboration with BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure and Pacific Climate Impacts Consortium has developed the Climate-Resilient Design Seminar Series, three day-long seminars in the lower mainland, Kelowna and Prince George. These will cover the professional practice guideline Developing Climate Change: Resilient Designs for Highway Infrastructure in BC (Interim) and outline in detail the professional responsibilities in considering climate change and extreme weather events in infrastructure project design.

This daylong seminar will cover presentations from:

  • the Chief Engineer of BC MoTI on the requirements under the T-Circular, practice trends from the Canadian Transportation Sector, and guidance for design professionals
  • the Climate Scientist at Pacific Climate Impacts Consortium on the availability of climate information, working with climate data while being cognizant of the assumptions and uncertainties
  • the Practice Advisor on the overview of these guidelines
  • the Authors of these guidelines, on the climate science as it relates to practice, professional practice considerations including the level of effort required in applying these guidelines

Facilitated in-class group exercises will be provided to clarify the concepts of risk assessments covered as the standard of practice in these guidelines. In addition, there will be opportunities to provide feedback on the application of these guidelines to highway design projects.
