Engineers Canada completed its second four-year term as host and chair of the WFEO Committee on Engineering and the Environment in December 2015.

Engineers Canada completed its second four-year term as host and chair of the WFEO Committee on Engineering and the Environment in December 2015. The Committee was chaired by Darrel Danyluk, FEC, P.Eng., a Past-President of Engineers Canada and APEGA. The Engineers Canada Secretariat was provided by David Lapp, FEC, P.Eng. Practice Lead, Engineering and Public Policy and Lynn Tremblay, Executive Assistant, Projects and Initiatives.

Over its eight years as host, Engineers Canada published 13 newsletters covering several themes that were pursued by Committee members. These included climate change, agriculture, mining, impacts of major sporting events and the development of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The development of two Model Codes of Practice on Sustainable Development and Environmental Stewardship as well as climate change adaptation and their unanimous adoption by the more than 90 national and international members of the WFEO were two milestones that leave a lasting legacy.

"Our appreciation and gratitude go to TD Insurance and APEGA for their sponsorship of the Committee for the past eight years," said Lapp. "The senior WFEO leadership viewed the Committee as a leader among all the Standing Committees and consistently rated its performance as among the best."

"Vision, leadership, commitment and dedication were other words used by national and international members of WFEO to describe the impact of the Committee and its volunteers."

The Institute of Civil Engineers of the United Kingdom assumed hosting and chairing the Committee in January 2016. Engineers Canada wishes them success and continued progress in the years to come.

Engineers Canada remains a continuing member of the Federation.
