Engineers Canada has been recognized as one of the 2017 National Capital Region’s Top Employers.

“All of us at Engineers Canada are proud that the organization has been recognized as one of the National Capital Region’s top employers,” said Engineers Canada Interim CEO Stephanie Price, P.Eng., CAE. “Staff have known for years that Engineers Canada provides an attractive place to work with outstanding colleagues. To receive outside recognition from Canada’s Top 100 Employers project is a rewarding achievement.”

This special designation recognizes the employers in the Ottawa-Gatineau metropolitan area that lead their industries in offering exceptional places to work, evaluated on eight criteria: physical workplace; work atmosphere and social; health, financial and family benefits; vacation and time off; employee communications; performance management; training and skills development; and community involvement.

Engineers Canada was selected as one of the 2017 Top Employers for a number of reasons, including:

  • its support for employees who are new mothers, fathers or adoptive parents with maternity and parental leave top-up payments -- the organization also offers the option to extend their leave into an unpaid leave of absence
  • new employees receive three weeks of paid vacation to start, moving to four weeks after only three years on the job -- additionally, the organization provides paid time off during the winter holidays and up to five paid personal days
  • in addition to supporting local, national and international charities each year, Engineers Canada encourages employees to give back to the community by providing paid time off to volunteer and matching employee donations (to a maximum of $1,000 per year)

Engineers Canada joins a wide range of public, private and not-for-profit organizations named to the Top 100 list this year, including the Bank of Canada, Carleton University, Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario, Egg Farmers of Canada, Hydro Ottawa, Lockheed Martin Canada Inc., Universities Canada, and a number of federal government departments and agencies.

First published in 2006, the National Capital Region's Top Employers is an annual competition organized by the editors of Canada's Top 100 Employers.
