Ottawa, ON, February 6, 2015 — Engineers Canada is proud to support the work of the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) on international mobility, and endorses the nomination of NCEES Immediate Past-President Patty Mamola, FEC, P.E., for the position of Deputy Chair of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC). The election will be held in June 2015 at the biennial meeting of the International Engineering Alliance (IEA) in Istanbul.

Ms. Mamola is a leader in international mobility. She has been steadfast in promoting enhanced mobility as an important means to enable the engineering profession to contribute globally for increased economic benefits. In recognition of her noteworthy achievement and service to the profession, Engineers Canada granted Ms. Mamola a Fellowship designation (FEC) in 2014.

Engineers Canada has been working on international mobility; globally, there is a growing need for engineering services. Many countries are successfully attracting new engineering graduates, while others may have capable engineers looking elsewhere for their next challenge. Providing members with exciting opportunities and a well-facilitated mobility framework is essential for our profession to flourish.

APEC is a regional economic forum that leverages growth within the Asia-Pacific region. Engineers Canada is a signatory of the APEC agreement, which ensures engineers have the opportunity to have their professional standing recognized amongst APEC signatories. This work ties into the Trans-Pacific Partnership free trade negotiations, a means to deepen Canada’s trade relationships within Asia-Pacific markets and to strengthen Canada’s traditional partnerships in the Americas.

Engineers Canada is confident that many great enhancements to international mobility will occur under Ms. Mamola’s leadership as APEC Deputy Chair.
