Polytechnique Montréal and Engineers Canada have signed a memorandum of understanding to launch a massive open online course (MOOC) based on the Canadian Engineering Qualifications Board’s National guideline on sustainable development and environmental stewardship. The MOOC is intended to help practising engineers increase their understanding of sustainable development and environmental stewardship while raising awareness of the guideline and providing opportunities for continuing professional development.
Polytechnique Montréal and Engineers Canada have signed a memorandum of understanding to launch a massive open online course (MOOC) based on the Canadian Engineering Qualifications Board’s National guideline on sustainable development and environmental stewardship. The MOOC is intended to help practising engineers increase their understanding of sustainable development and environmental stewardship while raising awareness of the guideline and providing opportunities for continuing professional development.
The course will be hosted by Polytechnique Montréal on the EDUlib online platform, which is accessible from anywhere in the world. While participation in the course will be free, participants will have the option to purchase a certificate of completion after passing a final exam. Participants will be able to ask questions and discuss the course content in an online forum, which will be monitored by Polytechnique Montréal with assistance from Engineers Canada. The MOOC will be available in English or French and will initially be run twice per year in each language.
The MOOC will outline the national guideline’s ten principles for implementing sustainable development and environmental stewardship in engineering, presenting case studies to demonstrate the application of the guideline’s principles in everyday practice. The MOOC will also build on content from Polytechnique Montréal’s MOOC L'ingénieur, source de solutions durables.
Polytechnique Montréal, Engineers Canada, and engineering regulators can share the content with members, engineering students and the public. The syllabus and content will be jointly developed by Polytechnique Montréal and a committee of experts from the school and the Qualifications Board. Engineers Canada will make in-kind and financial contributions to support the MOOC’s development, promotion, and translation. The online course will first be offered in the early spring of 2018.
