On June 13, 2017, Engineers Canada will host a one-day workshop in Toronto, ON, that will provide participants with a practical tool and process that systematically assesses the risks of current and future climate on public infrastructure.

With a focus on building and water infrastructure, this professional development workshop will cater to those professional who are involved in policy, planning, pre-design, design, operation, maintenance, management and regulation of infrastructure and who need to consider the changing climate in their work now and in the future.

The workshop will acquaint participants with Engineers Canada’s Public Infrastructure Engineering Vulnerability Committee (PIEVC) Protocol. The Protocol is a structured procedure using standard risk assessment science to assess and fully document the vulnerability of infrastructure to the impacts of current and future climate.

Two facilitated group sessions will illustrate real-life applications of the Protocol in which a qualitative, screening-level risk assessment was conducted on infrastructure. The workshop will also include an exercise on developing strategies and recommendations to address the identified vulnerabilities.

A full course description with schedule, learning outcomes, and biographies of course instructors—as well as the registration page—is available on the Engineers Canada website.
