Call for expressions of interest in joining the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (1-3 members-at-large)

NOTE:

This is a volunteer position at a national level that includes significant travel to meetings and participating in on-site accreditation visits in higher education institutions across Canada. As such, only members with flexibility to travel will be considered. The expenses associated with the travel are covered by Engineers Canada. There is no remuneration for the position. The travel and meetings are scheduled during both normal business hours as well as on weekends.

Purpose

The Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB) accredits undergraduate engineering programs across Canada. These programs provide the academic requirements for licensure as a professional engineer in Canada.

The CEAB produces information needed for the Engineers Canada board to make decisions on matters relating to engineering education and accreditation in Canada.

Reporting structure

The CEAB is a standing committee reporting to the Engineer Canada board. Sub-committees assist the CEAB in its work, including:

• Executive Committee
• Nominating Committee
• Policies and Procedures Committee
• Accountability in Accreditation Committee

As needed, task groups are established to work on specific issues.

Skills and Qualifications sought:

• Must be licensed to practice engineering in Canada.
• Must have a keen interest in engineering education and accreditation processes.
• The CEAB is made up of senior engineering practitioners from academia, the public sector and private industry. Working knowledge in one of these areas is required.
• Experience in accreditation visits is required.
• At least one of the nominations must be a person who has the ability to conduct accreditation visits in both French and English.
• At least one of the nominations must be a person with Mechanical Engineering experience.
• At least one of the nominations must be a person with industry experience.
• Engineers Canada is dedicated to promoting diversity and inclusivity in the engineering profession. A key component to increasing the number of women in engineering is 30 by 30, Engineers Canada’s goal of raising the percentage of newly licensed engineers who are women to 30 per cent by the year 2030. In addition, Indigenous peoples’ access to engineering is a priority for Engineers Canada

Term of office

Members of the CEAB are appointed for three-year terms (renewable) by the Engineers Canada board, based on recommendations of the Accreditation Board Nominating Committee.

Average Time Commitment:

On average, a CEAB member should expect to attend at least three face to face meetings per year plus participation on accreditation visits (spanning a few days each).
