Learn more about the Land that you are on...

Today, we gather in the city of Kjipuktuk (now called Halifax), which is located on the traditional and ancestral lands of the Mi'kmaq people. The Mi’kmaq people also steward the Eastern Maritime provinces of New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland.

Learn more about the history of the city now called Halifax, from the Mi’kmaw perspective here.

In 2015, the Halifax Regional Council passed a Statement of Reconciliation to support the municipality’s work with Mi’kmaq and Urban Indigenous communities, as well as learn from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and take action toward developing of a new truthful and dignifying relationship with Indigenous people of the land.
