On September 15, 2018 the Accreditation Board will participate in two workshops. The workshops are open to all current members of the Accreditation Board, past members of the Accreditation Board who will chair a 2018/2019 visit, and HEI representatives who have an interest in the topics.
Workshop 1: “Toward a Focus on GA/CI process”
Description: In February 2018, the Accreditation Board made a decision to focus more on GA/CI process and less on GA/CI data in the evaluation of criteria 3.1 and 3.2. This workshop is designed for CEAB members and observers who are responsible to implement and/or are impacted by this decision.
Desired outcomes:
- To establish a consistent view of the rationale for the Accreditation Board’s decision to focus more on GA/CI process and less on GA/CI data.
- Define what documentation and/or information the Accreditation Board expects from programs to demonstrate compliance with the GA/CI criteria.
- Revise the questionnaire for evaluation of an engineering program (including Exhibit 1), the graduate attributes and continual improvement rubrics, and tools for the visiting team such as the team chair presentation and suggested interview questions.
- Discuss a reasonable implementation plan for the changes
Workshop 2: Definition of Design
Description: The Accreditation Board accreditation criteria and procedures uses the term “design” in two different contexts – the Graduate Attribute criteria and curriculum content and quality criteria. This workshop is designed for Accreditation Board members and observers who are responsible to apply the two definitions in engineering programs for accreditation and for program improvement.
Desired outcomes:
- Establish a consistent interpretation and application of the definitions of “design” in the context of the Accreditation Board.
- Apply the interpretations of the definition to multiple case-based scenarios using sample course outlines.
- Discuss the development of a new definition and interpretive statement to provide guidance to visiting teams and HEIs in how to apply and assess “design.”
