On September 15, 2018, the Accreditation Board (CEAB) hosted two workshops: “Toward a greater focus on Graduate Attribute/Continual Improvement process” and “The Definition and Interpretation of “Engineering Design” in the CEAB context.” Approximately 50 individuals participated, including CEAB volunteers, regulator representatives, HEI faculty members, and staff, as well as CEQB members and Engineers Canada directors.
Initial feedback suggests that attendees enjoyed the interactive focus of the workshops. Many indicated that they left with a better appreciation of the CEAB’s rationale for focusing more on process as opposed to a review of data as it relates to graduate attributes and continual improvement. In particular, participants said that the exercise of applying the definitions of “engineering design” to different sample course outlines provided a very good learning opportunity. They also suggested that broader use of this type of exercise, for instance with accreditation visiting team members, would be beneficial.
A formal evaluation of the two workshops is currently in progress. The CEAB Secretariat will circulate to participants the workshop slides and supporting materials in the coming weeks.
