On Wednesday, October 18, the System Advisory Committee had a face-to-face meeting in Ottawa to provide input on the requirements of the data management system to be developed, and the request for proposal (RFP) that will be distributed to identify a partnering vendor. The meeting was productive with critical user input, and helped to refine the requirements for the system and clarify needs from multiple user perspectives. Committee members remarked that it was clear that there is a significant benefit in not simply recreating the existing forms on an online platform, but taking a closer examination of what is collected, how, by whom, and its relationship to other data. Following the meeting, the committee asked to take a closer look at the data model for the system. They will also review the RFP document draft.

This group has been assembled to provide advice and guidance on the selection of a data management system that will support accreditation and the submission of enrolment and degrees award information. They will assist in the prioritization of system requirements, providing approach recommendations for the system’s implementation, and user testing. This group was assembled by Engineers Canada, who targeted perspectives from a diversity of individuals heavily involved in the accreditation process, including those who input information through the current process and work with the enrolment survey. The committee was also designed to reflect geographic and structural diversity, such as the CÉGEP system in Quebec.

Members of the advisory committee include:

  •     Pemberton Cyrus, Dalhousie University
  •     Nicholas Krouglicof, University of Prince Edward Island
  •     Jake Kaupp, Queen’s University
  •     Carol Jaeger, University of British Columbia
  •     Marc Landry, Université Laval
  •     Laurent Mydlarski, McGill University
  •     Adam Rodrigues, Engineers Canada

In forming the committee, attention was given to ensuring a group that was both diverse and manageable in size. While we do have this committee, we still need your ongoing input. Please continue to contribute your suggestions and thoughts to accreditation@engineerscanada.ca. Thank you to those individuals who have expressed ways in which they’d like to be involved. When opportunities arise to contribute to this or any other element of the program, they will be identified to you directly or through these emails. If there is a particular role that you would be willing to participate in, please let us know at accreditation@engineerscanada.ca.
