Engineering Week Morning Technical Session – Low Impact Development

Are you passionate about sustainable engineering practices? Join the Niagara Engineering Week Committee for a Morning Technical Session at Club Roma to delve into the world of Low Impact Development.

The use of green infrastructure (GI) / Low Impact Development (LID) practices is becoming more prevalent as municipalities seek sustainable strategies to manage stormwater at its source. LID practices provide environmental, economic, and social benefits to urban areas, essential for creating sustainable, resilient, and vibrant cities. This presentation aims to support informed decision-making, with a special focus on the design, implementation, operation and maintenance of LID facilities, including lessons learned from the construction and performance monitoring of LID practices.

Speaker Bios

Sarah Andrew is an Associate, Senior Water Resources Engineer, and Project Manager for GHD’s Ontario Integrated Water Management team based out of Waterloo. She has over 17 years of experience in stormwater management related design, including both municipal and industrial green infrastructure, as well as performance monitoring of these features. She has developed and executed numerous surface water monitoring programs, managing both small and complex large-scale field and data monitoring programs using manual and real-time data collection methods. Her experience with performance monitoring and meteorological systems has allowed Sarah to design climate resilient SWM infrastructure using both traditional and green elements.

Greg Davidson has 15 years of experience as a project manager, construction contract administrator, site inspector, and field supervisor. His experience spans both municipal and private projects in the design and construction of various projects such as road reconstructions, retrofitting green infrastructure and low impact developments, storm and sanitary gravity sewer and force mains, distribution and transmission watermain, and trenchless sewer rehabilitation. His understanding of emerging standards and permits such as CLI ECA’s and Vision Zero initiatives underscores his commitment to adhering to regulatory requirements and enhancing project delivery. Greg works closely with a variety of provincial, regional, and municipal levels of government stakeholder agencies and private utility stakeholders to identify technical and constructible solutions for challenging design assignments. He further enhances his value on projects by identifying potential constructability issues to avoid costly delays, through proactive risk management and financial oversight, and ensuring responsive and timely delivery and adherence to specifications.

Angela Peck has technical and project management experience in complex and multidisciplinary research and design projects involving stakeholders from academia, consulting, government and public sectors. Her project experience covers system planning, green infrastructure evaluation and design, and hydraulic modelling for water and wastewater systems for municipalities in Canada. She’s certified as an Envision Environmental Professional and led and supported design of Low Impact Development (LID) facilities within the road Right of Way, working closely with clients and permitting agencies to identify sustainable water management solutions. When she’s not working, Angela’s an assistant volunteer coach with the Niagara Rapids volleyball club, Chair of the PEO Niagara Chapter, and continues to expand her knowledge having recently earned a non-academic micro credential in Sustainable Low Impact Development Infrastructure from McMaster’s Booth School of Engineering."
