March 5 – 8 – Engineers Canada was proud to be a Platinum Sponsor of the 2015 Canadian Engineering Competition (CEC) held at Memorial University in St. John’s, Newfoundland.  This year’s theme was The Edge of Innovation, significant because of St. John’s location, and as the challenge to all competitors. Over 150 undergraduate engineering students from across Canada competed. Competitors qualify by placing first in their regional competitions.

The CEC is an annual competition involving the best and brightest engineering students from across Canada and it strives to advance the education of future engineers. The competition is designed to inspire innovative and creative thinking.

Competitors were tasked with not only creating innovative solutions to engineering challenges, but to also articulate these solutions to judges who came to CEC from across Canada.  This year, students were asked to consider environmental, social and economic ramifications of their designs.

CEO Kim Allen, FEC, P.Eng., and Jamie Ricci, Practice Lead, Research, judged two of the competitions, Re-Engineering, and Communications, respectively.  There are seven competition categories: Junior Team Design, Senior Team Design, Re-engineering, Extemporaneous Debate, Engineering Communication, Innovative Design, and Consulting Engineering.

Engineers Canada would like to congratulate all participants and winners. We would also like to recognize the organizing team at Memorial University. They exceptional professionalism and provided a seamless event.

The 2016 Canadian Engineering Competition will be held at McGill University in Montréal. Visit the CEC website and View a list of this year’s winners.
