Smit had to pay $18,750 in legal fees to Engineers and Geoscientists BC. During the suspension period, Smit must successfully complete and pass the Professional Engineering and Geoscientists BC Practice in BC online seminar and a structural engineering course. Six months after the suspension period concludes, Smit must undergo a practice review conducted by the Engineers and Geoscientists BC Audit and Practice Review Committee.

Displaced tenants are calling for work to stop at UBC construction site.Residents of a subsidized housing complex in Kelowna, B.C, were forced to evacuate due to construction on the University of British Columbia-Okanagan's (UBCO) downtown campus. B.C. Housing said recent geotechnical and structural engineering reports showed a shoring wall at the university site is unstable, and a slip "could cause serious structural damage" to the apartment building. Ground shifting has also caused damage to other nearby buildings, according to the city, including the Okanagan coLab and the Kelowna Royal Canadian Legion Branch.
