Engineers and cities respond to Montreal’s water main break. The major water main break in Montreal, following Calgary’s water main break, has people concerned about infrastructure in Canadian cities. In Montreal, inspectors have been analyzing the extent and location of the damage to the pipe; in Calgary, repairs have begun, but five other weak spots have been found. To reduce flooding and ease strain on aging infrastructure, innovative solutions like permeable pavement are being discussed as potential mitigation measures.
