APEGA’s ability to disclose details of investigations. Ventilation and the spread of COVID-19. Biased language in job advertisements. These were the most-read stories in the Daily Media Report in the latter half of January.

APEGA: APEGA responded to public concerns about transparency in investigating engineering and geoscience practices, writing in a news release that they have submitted updates to the Engineering and Geoscience Professions Act that would allow APEGA greater transparency in reporting whether investigations have been initiated.

Ventilation: The Public Health Agency of Canada released a report that warned that poor ventilation can lead to COVID-19 outbreaks. However, critics have argued that the Public Health Ontario has been slow to acknowledge evidence of airborne transmission.

Job advertisements: Openreach, which operates most of Britain’s broadband network, released a report that found that biased language in job advertisements deters as many as one in two women from applying to engineering jobs.
