A criminal negligence trial begins in BC. More lawsuits against a New Brunswick engineer. Ontario reaches tentative deal with government engineers.

Trial in BC: A criminal negligence trial began in BC in late January that arose from a 2012 workplace incident in North Burnaby. This piece in Canadian Occupational Safety Magazine suggests that the trial has broader implications, raising questions about the application of the Westray Law, the role of engineering oversight in construction safety, and the division of responsibility among supervisors, engineers, and corporate leadership.

New Brunswick lawsuits: A Moncton structural engineer, whose licence was suspended by the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of New Brunswick last year, faces more lawsuits alleging design flaws in buildings that require repair, as reported in this CBC article

Ontario labour dispute: The Government of Ontario reached a tentative agreement in late January with the Professional Engineers Government of Ontario, as reported by CP24. More than 600 professional engineers and land surveyors had been withdrawing their services as part of a labour dispute.
