Daily Media Report recap: January 18-31

Disciplinary action taken against engineers. Post-secondary engineering competitions. New research on the gender pay gap. These are some of the most read stories from the Daily Media Report over the past two weeks.

  • In Ontario, PEO announced that Amr Adel Mousta Robah and Revival Design and Management Group Inc. had been convicted under the Professional Engineers Act for the unauthorized use of professional engineers’ seal. PEO also announced that Mohammed Abuzour and Geotech Engineering Corporation were convicted for multiple breaches of the Professional Engineers Act.
  • Tis the season…for post-secondary engineering competitions. University of Manitoba teams took home first place at the Western Engineering Competition, hosted at the University of Manitoba in mid-January. Meanwhile, a team from the University of Ottawa and Université du Québec en Outaouais won first place at Les Jeux de Génie du Québec in the small delegation category.
  • A study released last week found that women in Canadian tech jobs earn nearly $20,000 less than their male counterparts. The pay gap can be equally as stark for visible minority Indigenous tech workers as well.
