The footbridge at Fort Gibraltar was last inspected 17 years ago. A wooden footbridge at Fort Gibraltar collapsed and sent 17 children and their teacher to the hospital. It was determined that the last confirmed inspection of this bridge was 17 years ago. Currently, there is no provincial legislation or municipal bylaw that requires the city to conduct periodic inspections of the integrity of structures.
