1913 grain elevator collapse. The Western Producer looks back on the 1913 collapse of a brand-new grain elevator on the day it opened. The cause was base shear failure, as unknown layers of clay slipped over each other and crumpled, sinking the elevator by more than seven metres.
Queen’s iron ring ceremony. The iron ring ceremony at Queen’s university this year was updated for inclusivity. The all male pronouns were changed, the references to Christianity were removed, and the ceremony was live-streamed for friends and family.
Hydrogen research. Two professors at the University of Alberta are researching a new method of hydrogen production. Their work involves blending hydrogen and natural gas to reduce the use of methane, and how carbon nitride can be used in computer chips and accelerate hydrogen production.
