SNC-Lavalin rebrands to AtkinsRéalis. The SNC-Lavalin rebrand comes after years of trouble with the law, corruption scandals, and declining revenue. The CEO said the company would like to streamline its operations and move away from its previous reputation.
Edmonton developer linked to Castledowns condo. In early September, the City of Edmonton issued an order for all residents to vacate a Castledowns Pointe condo building that is in danger of collapsing. There appear to have been critical discrepancies, oversight and errors in the original architectural and structural drawing that were not coordinated during the design stage or noticed during the construction. Documents show the property is linked to a developer, Carrington Properties Ltd., that, over several decades, has built many condos and other properties not just in Edmonton, but elsewhere in Alberta and in the Okanagan.
Rescue of boring machine delayed again. The rescue of a multi-million dollar boring machine trapped beneath a west Toronto street has been delayed again. The project, which was supposed to have been completed this fall, is instead expected to be finished by December. Some additional restoration of the street will not take place until the spring. The delay is just the latest problem the city and contractors have encountered with the project, which has nearly tripled in price since earlier this year, with costs jumping to $25 million — up from the approximately $9 million price tag in March.
