Members of Engineers Canada’s accreditation team attended the Canadian Engineering Education Association’s annual conference in Kelowna, BC, from June 19-21, 2023. The conference is widely attended by engineering education stakeholders, including educators, students, educational institutions, and companies/organizations that have an interest in engineering education. The conference is an opportunity for stakeholders to connect, share, and learn about continual improvements in engineering education.

This year’s conference theme was ‘Engagement and Impact’, featuring workshops and technical sessions on engineering education pedagogy, emerging technologies, social and ethical issues, leadership, and assessment and feedback. Papers were presented on a wide variety of topics, many of which touched on accreditation. The Graduate Attributes, the role of accreditation in supporting Equity Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) initiatives, and the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board’s curriculum content requirements and measurement methodology were all topics of discussion throughout the conference. In addition, stakeholders presented on larger themes such as teaching innovations, technical advancements in education, and considerations for EDI in engineering education.

As a Senior Innovator sponsor, Engineers Canada hosted a booth to share Engineers Canada’s initiatives including 30 by 30 and the Futures of Engineering Accreditation. Through the booth, the team had an opportunity to connect with engineering faculty from across Canada. Conference organizers reported over 300 attendees, and approximately 120 first-timers; the Canadian Engineering student body was well represented.

“It’s always a pleasure being able to attend the CEEA Conference. It’s inspiring to meet and learn from passionate engineering educators from across the nation,” says Elise Guest, Assistant Manager, Accreditation at Engineers Canada.

“We look forward to CEEA’s 2024 conference, which will be hosted by the University of Alberta from June 15-19, 2024,” says Guest.
