At a ceremony last week, Engineers Canada was honoured with Platinum certification under Excellence Canada’s Organizational Excellence Standard. The recognition is a highlight of the organization’s eight-year journey through bronze, silver, and gold certifications and its continued commitment to excellence, innovation, and continual improvement.
“Engineers Canada is proud to have achieved Platinum certification, recognizing our sustained commitment to excellence, innovation, and continual improvement,” said Philip Rizcallah, P.Eng., Chief Executive Officer, Engineers Canada. “This achievement reflects the dedication of our team and our ongoing effort to advance the engineering profession through a culture of growth and collaboration.”
The Organizational Excellence Standard serves as a roadmap for organizations that wish to improve performance in all aspects of their operations. Consisting of six key drivers spanning leadership, planning, customers, people, processes, and partners, the progressive nature of the standard ensures organizations are successively building throughout each level of achievement and striving for sustained improvement over time.
Organizations who achieve platinum certification demonstrate sustained practices since gold certification, a culture continual improvement, and high-quality outcomes.
To mark the achievement, Engineers Canada produced a short video featuring the voices of 20 staff members, reflecting on what the journey to excellence means to them and what it says about the organization. This is a sampling of what they had to say:
- “The fact that we are achieving platinum is just evidence that we are an organization that is effective, that is strong, that is resilient.” - Nathan Durham, Manager, Public Affairs
- “This recognition highlights that as an organization, we are able to maintain a strong and thriving work culture.” - Shobana S. Bhatnagar, Human Resources Advisor
- “Working at Engineers Canada is working with people, who are passionate about the engineering profession, about society, and about the challenges that we all face.” – Jeanette Southwood, P.Eng., Vice President, Corporate Affairs and Strategic Partnerships
- “I think it's incredible to see people feeling comfortable expressing themselves, being passionate about their opinions, and bringing their unique strengths to the table.” – Ryan Melsom, Manager, Qualifications and CEQB Secretary
This journey towards excellence formally began in January, 2016. Since then, Engineers Canada has demonstrated that continual improvement is a way of life. Employees feel valued, included, and fully engaged in improvement initiatives while the organization is viewed as a leader in its sector, known for knowledge sharing, leadership, and benchmarked best practices.
As Engineers Canada continues to build on this success, the organization remains committed to sustaining its performance and achieving its strategic goals, ensuring a bright future for the engineering profession in Canada.
