On April 9-10, 2016, the Engineers Canada Qualifications Board held a two-day national meeting in Ottawa, ON.
Twenty-seven representatives from each jurisdiction, industry, academia and Engineers Canada shared national best practices and discussed several topics including alternatives to the Canadian environment experience, examination of international graduates and organizational quality management.
At the meeting, the Qualifications Board also approved five new syllabi:
- Electrical engineering
- Mechanical engineering
- Mechatronic Engineering
- Chemical Engineering
- Naval Architectural Engineering
These new syllabi will soon be available on the Engineers Canada website.
The Qualifications Board is also recommending that the Engineers Canada Board of Directors approves the new Guideline on Assuming Responsibility for the Work of Engineers-in-Training, the White Paper on the Practice of Software Engineering, and the revised National Guideline on the Code of Ethics.
The Qualifications Board is a committee of the Engineers Canada Board and is a volunteer-based organization that provides national leadership and recommendations to regulators on the practice of engineering in Canada. As part of its responsibilities, it develops and maintains national guidelines on admission, training, practice and new areas of practice in Canada, and develops and maintains syllabi for the assessment of international engineering graduates.
The next Qualifications Board meeting will be held in Halifax, NS, on September 16-17, 2016.
