Building on the success of the first three workshops that took place in 2015, the Engineering Change Lab will be hosting its fourth workshop at the XChange Conference in Hamilton, Ont., from January 15-17, 2016.

The Change Lab team will be attending and running several sessions during the Engineering and Society stream of the conference, which shares the same goal as the Lab—to unlock the higher potential of the engineering profession.

These sessions will attract between 40 and 80 delegates, in addition to Lab participants.

“It looks like [these sessions] will be a great way to broaden engagement in the work of the Lab,” said Mark Abbott, Engineering Change Lab Animator. “They will help us build a broader movement and contribute to the changes we want to see.”

The Engineering Change Lab was co-convened by Engineers Canada and Engineers Without Borders Canada and held its first workshop in January 2015. The Lab is a platform for collaboration to allow individuals and organizations from across the engineering profession to take action to address the system challenges that have been holding back the profession’s full potential.

Michel Gelobter will be joining Monica Pohlmann from Reos Partners to co-facilitate this fourth Change Lab workshop. Gelobter is author of the recent book Lean Startups for Social Change: The Revolutionary Path to Big Impact, in which he brings the techniques of fast-growing tech companies to practice for NGOs and government agencies.

This lean movement in the business world is driving unprecedented innovation in start-ups and large organizations, and Gelobter will be sharing this approach during the workshop.

Individuals can either attend the full XChange Conference, which allows them to attend content from within the Engineering and Society stream and from the broader content, or the Change Lab has created special one-day and one-and-a-half-day Engineering and Society-focused programs at reduced costs.

Engineers Canada is happy to be a platinum sponsor of this year’s XChange Conference, which is an annual conference hosted by Engineers Without Borders Canada.
