Engineers Cananda’s Qualifications Board publishes guidelines on topics that address a single subject relevant to engineering admissions and practice in Canada. The guidelines are sometimes supported by supplementary documents or quick guides to provide additional information or communicate key items from the guidelines.
Recently, the Board released a Guideline on the Duty to Report. This guideline is intended to help engineers, engineering firms, and others involved with the engineering profession better understand their duty and options with respect to reporting certain behaviour, conduct, or activity. The guideline provides an overview of the role of regulators and registrants, when a report could and should be made, how to report, and potential consequences and challenges.
There are two new quick guides now available to help engineers and employers share and better understand the importance of the duty to report. The quick guide, Understanding the Duty to Report, provides an overview of the registrant’s role in fulfilling their duty to report, and situations where reporting may be encouraged. The Reporting Process quick guide covers key elements of the reporting process, helping engineers understand who to report to, what to include in a report, possible outcomes, and more.
