In June 2016, Engineers Canada launched EngScape, an online portal about the engineering labour market in Canada. Now, Engineers Canada has developed a free lesson plan that educators can use to introduce their students to EngScape and the world of engineering.

EngScape is a great place for students and youth to explore the world of engineering and what it can offer them. The site can help them uncover which type of engineering might interest them, where they can pursue a post-secondary education in engineering, and what type of engineering jobs might be available to them upon graduation. Ultimately, EngScape is a valuable tool for students as they contemplate their post-secondary plans.

To help bring EngScape to students, Engineers Canada has developed a lesson plan that educators can use to introduce students to engineering and the career prospects it can hold for them.

The EngScape lesson plan focuses on the ‘E’ in STEM. Canada is moving rapidly toward a knowledge-based jobs economy, and STEM education can help prepare the youth of today for the jobs of tomorrow. While a large emphasis is placed on science, technology and math in high school classrooms, engineering cannot be neglected. This lesson plan introduces students to a great resource that will open up the world of engineering to students.

Also included among the resources for educators are EngScape and National Engineering Month posters that can be printed and hung in classrooms, libraries and schools to let students know that EngScape is a resource available to them.

These resources can be downloaded at EngScape.ca
