Engineers Canada has kick-started work on a strategic priority to Investigate and validate the purpose and scope of accreditation (or page 5 of this pdf). This strategic priority will confirm the regulators’ requirements for the accreditation system and determine if changes are needed and, if so, what type of changes. The fundamental goal of this strategic priority is to understand the perspectives of all stakeholders and use this to propose a path forward that will satisfy all regulators.
Since September, we have:
- Posted a Request For Proposal (RFP) for a consultant to produce a report on the current state and future possibilities in engineering education;
- Posted a Request For Proposal (RFP) for a consultant to benchmark the Canadian engineering accreditation system to other professional accreditation systems in Canada, and to other engineering accreditation systems worldwide; and
- Assembled a steering committee and four (4) task forces, composed of accreditation experts, educators, and former Board and CEQB membersto guide and execute the work.
- Assembled a team of regulator representatives who will provide direction and feedback and serve as a communication liaison to their regulator.
On October 22, 2021, members of the Regulatory advisory group, steering committee and task forces attended a kick-off session which covered the background and scope of the strategic priority. The session also gave attendees an opportunity to ask questions and hear from the other volunteers involved in the program.
We will continue to bring you updates on the accreditation strategic priority as the work progresses.
