Next week is National Volunteer Week – a time of celebration for the importance of volunteers across Canada. Organizations from many corners of the country will be recognizing the difference volunteers make through the theme, “volunteers make waves”. Like water in constant motion, always flowing and transforming with every powerful wave or quiet ripple, each volunteer’s contribution creates an influential impact in our communities.
At Engineers Canada, over 300 individuals from the engineering community contribute their time, expertise, and passion through boards, workshops, committees, accreditation visits, outreach, and more. They offer their voice to key discussions, their knowledge to decision-making processes, and their leadership to initiatives that aim to advance engineering – all of which contribute immensely to the work of Engineers Canada.
Volunteers also help drive the goals set out in our strategic plans. The milestones observed in our 2022-2024 strategic plan are a testament to the magnitude of volunteers’ collective impact. This was witnessed in the work of the Futures of Engineering Accreditation project, the development of new guidelines and national positions on important engineering topics, support for the 30 by 30 initiative, and many more activities.
As we celebrate National Volunteer Week, Engineers Canada extends gratitude for the difference volunteers have made – not just this week, but every week.
