Discipline notice. Engineers and Geoscientists BC issued a discipline notice to Charles Archie McLean, P.Eng. (Retired) for the design of a lean-to roof for a storage structure which did not comply with the 2012 BC Building Code. McLean admitted that he demonstrated unprofessional conduct related to the project and acted contrary to the Bylaws of Engineers and Geoscientists BC by failing to provide sufficient details in his design and delegating responsibilities where it was not appropriate. There are conditions to be met to regain his status as a practising registrant, should he decide to do so. McLean also paid $5,000 toward the legal and investigative costs of Engineers and Geoscientists BC.

Trust in Research Undertaken in Science and Technology Scholarly Network (TRuST). Dr. Mary Wells is the dean of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Waterloo and a founding member of the Trust in Research Undertaken in Science and Technology scholarly network (TRUST). TRuST aims to bridge the gap between the people who design and build new technologies and the people who use them, and to combat the growing trend of disinformation to better understand why some people deny, doubt or resist scientific findings and explanations. They’re exploring how engineers, scientists and researchers can find ways of embedding trust into the technologies that they are currently building.
