Bill 149, introduced by the Ontario government in November 2023, aims to level the playing field for skilled immigrants facing barriers to employment by removing the Canadian work experience requirements. The goal is to help skilled immigrants who are struggling to integrate them into the workforce. However, concerns persist regarding the difficulty of preventing discriminatory hiring practices.

Discontinuation of APEGA’s Mentoring Program and Job Board. The Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) is discontinuing their mentorship program and job board. The current mentorship program will be modified and integrated into APEGA’s new Work Readiness Program. Mentors and mentees can also check out the APEGA Mentoring Café, which creates a one-time connection between university students and industry professionals with no long-term commitment.
