On July 14, 2016, Engineers Canada’s David Lapp, FEC, P.Eng., IRP, delivered a presentation to the New Brunswick legislature in Fredericton, NB, entitled “Public Infrastructure and Our Changing Climate: Achieving Resilience through Adaptation.”

Lapp testified in front of the province’s select committee on climate change alongside adaptation experts from other industries. Lapp’s presentation focussed on the work that the engineering profession has been doing to factor future climate projections into the plans and designs for infrastructure being built today.

Engineers Geoscientists New Brunswick CEO Andrew McLeod, FEC (Hon.), and Carol McQuarrie, P.Eng., were also in attendance. Engineers Geoscientists New Brunswick has been invited to present to the select committee in late August. Engineers Canada will assist in preparing their presentation, which will include remarks on climate change mitigation and adaptation of infrastructure to improve climate resilience.

The select committee will present a final report to New Brunswick Premier Brian Gallant by mid-October and it is expected to form a significant part of the government’s climate change strategy.
