About the role 

Working with a diverse team of volunteers, regulators, and staff, the Specialist, Qualifications develops, sustains, and supports initiatives that enable effective delivery of the Canadian Engineering Qualifications Board (CEQB) portfolio. This role entails a dynamic combination of research, policy development, volunteer management, and interest holder management. Ultimately the high-quality, timely work of the Qualifications team contributes to good engineering practice in Canada and a more fair and inclusive profession.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assists the Manager, Qualifications in managing the committees and working groups of the CEQB, in order to support the development of guidelines, research papers, and admissions supports.
  • Oversees consultation processes for CEQB products, supporting strong interest holder relationships and reliable delivery of consultations.
  • Collaborates on communications initiatives to ensure that Qualifications products reach target audiences in a timely and meaningful way.
  • Delivers the CEQB volunteer management program, which includes nomination processes, onboarding and orientation, and continual improvements.
  • Supports on vendor management processes, including RFP development and vendor relationship management.
  • Provides research and recommendations, such as environmental scans and surveys, to inform policy recommendations on Qualifications projects and initiatives.
  • Identifies and initiates improvements to CEQB processes and documentation, collaborating with others to resolve issues and challenges.

Education and Experience Requirements

Education

  • Graduate from a recognized University, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience

  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience involving a combination of policy research and analysis, interest holder management, consultation, and/or volunteer management.
  • A track record of working effectively with diverse staff, volunteers, clients, and the public.
  • Proven ability to collaborate on program management and provide strategic, evidence-based recommendations to support multi-year policy projects.
  • Proven success in providing collaborative, constructive client support, while prioritizing a complex variety of responsibilities and duties.

Key Competencies

  • Experience in managing processes and developing materials to support complex, high-stakes board and committee meetings.
  • Familiarity with project management principles, practices, and tools, with a track record of delivering projects on time and on budget.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills.

Desirable

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 Business, SharePoint, and Microsoft Teams.
  • Understanding of EDI principles, especially as they pertain to a STEM profession.
  • Experience working in a professional association or not-for-profit organization.

Language

  • Proficiency in English is required. Proficiency in French is an asset.

About our working conditions

This is a full-time two-year term position that is based out of our Ottawa head office. 

There is a requirement to work a minimum of (3) three days/week in the office for the first (3) three months of employment and to occasionally work weekends and evenings. This position may require occasional travel within Canada.
