This page outlines guidelines to help protect attendees from the spread of COVID-19. If you (or any guest(s) traveling with you) are sick or feel unwell prior to departure, please stay home. We all owe each other and members of the public a duty of care to help prevent the spread of infection.

When attending the Engineers Canada 2020 Board Strategic Workshop:

  • Face masks are encouraged and will be provided on site
  • Physical distancing of 2 meters from others must be maintained at all times
  • All attendees (including guests) must provide contact information as part of meeting attendance protocols. This contact information will be shared with the relevant public health authorities in the event of COVID-19 exposure.
  • Should you test positive for COVID-19 within two weeks of the end of the meeting, you are required to report this to Engineers Canada.
  • If you present symptoms, you should stay home.

Getting to and from Banff

Flying to and from Calgary: Engineers Canada has chosen Air Canada as the official airline for its meetings. You are asked to book in the “Comfort” class in order to take advantage of fully refundable tickets. For information on what health and safety measures Air Canada has put in place throughout your travel with them from check-in, through boarding, and on board the aircraft, refer to their CleanCare+ program.

Getting from Calgary to Banff and back: The drive to Banff from Calgary is about 1 hour and 40 minutes. You will have to schedule your own rental vehicle to make the drive. Because of requirements to maintain physical distancing, there will be no sharing of rental vehicles with other attendees.

When you arrive at the Fairmont Banff Springs

Here’s what you can expect...

Pre-arrival: The hotel sends a communication to each guest with a room reservation, asking that they self-identify if they belong to a risk group for COVID-19 – if yes, the hotel asks that they postpone their travels until the risk period has passed. Additional information on arrival process, online check-in, hotel services & amenities, fast checkout, and more is provided in this communication and guests are encouraged to use this information to minimize contact upon arrival.

Upon arrival: Gloved and masked greeters offer hand sanitizer and masks to guests and manage the queue to ensure physical distancing. There is mandatory screening for all attendees, which may include temperature checks.

In the hotel’s public spaces: Cleaning is done with increased frequency. Hand sanitizer is available in key areas throughout the hotel. Gathering spaces have been rearranged and signage posted to promote physical distancing. Elevators have a maximum occupancy to allow for physical distancing. High-touch surfaces in public washrooms are disinfected each hour.

In your room: There is a 48 hour ‘resting period’ between guest stays. Upon arrival in your room, you will find a Wellness Kit that includes masks, gloves, hand sanitizer, and disinfecting wipes. There is an enhanced focus on disinfection of all guest room touchpoints, and the tea/coffee maker, minibar items, pens and stationary, hotel collateral, print magazines, and alarm clocks have been removed from the rooms. These items are available upon request and are disinfected between each use.

At your meeting: Upon arrival, masked and gloved greeters will offer hand sanitizer and masks and will manage physical distancing. The meeting spaces have been rearranged to ensure physical distancing between attendees. In addition to increased cleaning and disinfecting, all furniture and equipment inside the meeting space is sanitized before and after every meeting and event. Masks and gloves will be worn by all Fairmont meeting and event staff. All preset items on tables have been eliminated except individual bottled water.

During meal times: All food and beverage equipment is sanitized before and after every meeting and event. All dining setups will ensure physical distancing between guests. All buffet and self-serve options have been eliminated. There has been a shift to disposable accompaniments (salt and pepper, etc.). All staff will be wearing masks and gloves.

All protocols have been developed following the guidance of the WHO, CDC & PHAC, AHLA & USTA, and local health and government authorities, and have been validated by Fairmont’s expert advisory partners for maximum efficacy.
