April 11, 2018, is the International Day of Pink. Today, Engineers Canada staff are proudly wearing pink to take a stand against discrimination and bullying in engineering and in all communities. This is part of an international effort to raise awareness of bullying and discrimination, especially prejudice based on sexual orientation or gender identity.

I’m pleasantly surprised with the level of enthusiasm. As I’ve sat down with each person in the organization, I’ve seen a committed group of individuals. It’s been gratifying to see how dedicated they are to moving the organization forward in the jobs they do. There’s not the sense that they don’t want to do things—the key is making sure that we’re doing the right things.

Engineers and Geoscientists BC, in collaboration with BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure and Pacific Climate Impacts Consortium has developed the Climate-Resilient Design Seminar Series, three day-long seminars in the lower mainland, Kelowna and Prince George. These will cover the professional practice guideline Developing Climate Change: Resilient Designs for Highway Infrastructure in BC (Interim)  and outline in detail the professional responsibilities in considering climate change and extreme weather events in infrastructure project design.
