The 30 by 30 Champions Group, which consists of more than 40 members nationwide, works on strategy and action plans to improve the recruitment, retention, and professional development of women in engineering. They are a major force for change in the engineering profession, and an essential part of Engineers Canada’s goal to see the percentage of newly licensed engineers who are women climb to 30 percent by the year 2030.

OIQ submits recommendations on forthcoming changes to Quebec’s Professional Code

Earlier this summer, Bill 29 was tabled in the National Assembly of Quebec, proposing amendments to the province’s Professional Code which provides the legislative framework governing several professional orders. The bill focuses on descriptions of the scopes of practice, or the “reserved acts” which only licensed professionals can do. These changes would impact Quebec’s Engineers Act, redefining professional activities reserved to engineers.

Engineers Canada submits recommendations to government on capacity building, CPTPP

In late summer, Engineers Canada submitted recommendations to the federal government in response to two separate consultations—the House of Commons Standing Committee on Indigenous and Northern Affairs’ study on community capacity building and retention of talent in Indigenous communities, and Global Affairs Canada’s request for input on the possible accession of new members to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).
